Our Research Clusters

‘Five clusters. One mission. Evidence that drives change

Our Research Approach

CENRRC’s research is organised around a comparative, interdisciplinary methodology. We combine quantitative modelling, legal analysis, field research, and stakeholder engagement to generate insights that are both academically rigorous and practically relevant. Our work is peer-reviewed, openly accessible where possible, and explicitly designed to inform real-world decisions.

C01

Renewable Energy Systems & Energy Transition

We examine the technological, economic, regulatory, and social dimensions of accelerating renewable energy deployment in diverse geographical and governance contexts. Our research spans resource assessment and grid modelling through to investment frameworks, off-grid solutions, and just transition pathways for fossil fuel-dependent communities.

C02

Fossil Fuels, Extractives & Resource Governance

Our work promotes responsible extraction, equitable revenue distribution, and well-managed transition pathways for resource-dependent economies. We engage with the full governance cycle from licensing and contract design to environmental monitoring and post-extraction land restoration.

C03

Climate Change, Environment & Resilience

We generate evidence to strengthen climate resilience, improve carbon pricing and market design, protect natural capital, and support communities most vulnerable to climate impacts. Our work bridges physical science, economics, and governance to develop integrated adaptation and mitigation strategies.

Energy Economics, Policy & Regulation

Our research supports the development of efficient, equitable, and investment-ready energy markets. Through rigorous economic analysis and comparative regulatory benchmarking, we help governments and regulators design frameworks that balance consumer affordability, investor confidence, and sustainability objectives.

Technology, Innovation & Sustainable Infrastructure

We explore how emerging technologies from artificial intelligence in grid management to blockchain in energy trading can be governed, financed, and deployed at scale. Our work addresses technology regulation, intellectual property, infrastructure financing, and the socio-economic implications of rapid technological change.
