Innovation in energy and natural resources is not only a technical challenge – it is a governance, financing, and social one. CENRRC’s Innovation & Technology work supports the development, testing, scaling, and responsible governance of solutions that can accelerate a just energy transition and improve the management of natural resources.
We partner with universities, startups, industry, and communities to close the gap between laboratory innovation and real-world deployment.
We support early-stage clean technology ventures through a structured incubation programme that combines mentorship from experienced practitioners, connections to seed and impact funding, regulatory navigation guidance, and facilitated access to pilot and demonstration partnerships.
Priority incubation areas include off-grid and mini-grid renewable energy, advanced energy storage technologies, circular economy solutions for the extractive sector, precision environmental monitoring tools, and digital platforms for energy access and resource governance.
Real-world testing is essential for scaling sustainable energy and resource governance solutions. CENRRC operates and facilitates pilot projects and demonstration sites where new technologies, business models, financing structures, and regulatory approaches can be trialled under controlled but realistic conditions. Outcomes from pilots directly inform scaling decisions, investment cases, and regulatory frameworks.
We help universities, research institutions, and independent inventors translate energy and resource innovations from laboratory to market. Our technology transfer services include intellectual property landscape assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses, industry matchmaking, licensing negotiation support, and spin-out company formation guidance. We work closely with technology offices, national development agencies, and private investors to create viable commercialisation pathways.
CENRRC runs quarterly open calls for startups, independent researchers, social enterprises, and community groups to submit proposals for incubation support, pilot funding, or technical assistance. We particularly welcome applications from innovators based in the Global South and from underrepresented groups in the clean energy and resource governance ecosystem.
A multidisciplinary research centre advancing knowledge, innovation, and policy solutions in energy systems, natural resource governance, and climate resilience.
