The evidence infrastructure behind better decisions

Overview

Sound decisions require sound data. CENRRC’s Data & Analytics Hub is a comprehensive suite of tools, models, and datasets designed to support evidence-based research, planning, regulation, and investment across the energy and natural resources sectors. All tools are developed with rigorous quality assurance and are available for collaborative use by qualified partners.

CENRRC’s Data, Modelling & Analytics Unit operates a suite of tools and platforms designed to make complex energy and resource data accessible and actionable for decision-makers at every level.

Energy system modelling

We develop and maintain energy system models  including demand-side, supply-side, and integrated resource planning models that simulate future energy trajectories under a range of policy, technology, and climate scenarios. Our models are tailored to national and regional contexts, openly documented, and available for collaborative research partnerships. Outputs include cost projections, capacity expansion pathways, emissions forecasts, and investment requirement estimates.

Resource Mapping Tools

Our interactive geospatial platforms visualise renewable energy potential (solar irradiance, wind speed, hydrology), extractive resource deposits, critical infrastructure networks, and environmental and social sensitivities. These tools are designed to support strategic energy planning, investment due diligence, and regulatory oversight. Custom map layers can be developed in collaboration with national agencies or development partners.

Indicators of Effectiveness in Energy

We have developed a curated, evidence-based framework of key performance indicators (KPIs) for evaluating energy policy, regulation, and project implementation. Our indicators span five dimensions: affordability, reliability, sustainability, equity, and governance quality. The framework is designed for use by regulators, ministries, development financiers, and independent evaluators.

Climate Risk Dashboards

Our climate risk dashboards integrate current observational data with forward-looking climate projections to assess vulnerabilities facing energy infrastructure, supply chains, water resources, and resource-dependent communities. Users can explore risk profiles under multiple warming trajectories (1.5°C, 2°C, 3°C+) and time horizons (2030, 2050, 2070), enabling proactive adaptation planning and risk-adjusted investment decisions.

Open Data Portal

Our Open Data Portal provides free access to a wide range of datasets, model outputs, legal databases, survey results, and spatial data. All data are published under open licences to maximise reuse and transparency. Registered users can access premium datasets, request custom data extracts, and collaborate on data improvement initiatives.
